I wore this get up last night for one of my best friend's birthday party in Williamsburg. I was channeling the year 2003 when I put this outfit together. These were my thoughts: "Hmm, what would Britney Spears do in 2003? Oh, that's easy, let me tie this white button up and pretend I'm in her hit music video 'Baby One More Time'" Then I was like, "What was the tackiest/coolest thing during the early 2000's? This stupid American flag bead pin that girls used to make during summer camp? Yes. This pin." And finally I thought, "Fishnets. Done."

Threads: White button up is a cut up Ralph Lauren blouse I borrowed from my roommate Dominique. Vest is surprisingly from forever 21 (and I say surprisingly because I never find things I like in that store). Express maxi skirt (with a bomb-ass slit) was thrifted from Salvation Army. I wish you could feel the material. It feels like what prom dresses were made of in 1998. That stretchy fabric that sometimes looks like velvet...you know what I mean? Fishnets are from some drug store. ACE booties from Matiko.

Don't think I was prancing around Brooklyn sleeve-less last night, I threw on my leather jacket to stay warm (showed in third photo). It's still "winter" here so a jacket is necessary.

Details: The details to this look are my favorite! These reflective mirror circle sunnies were a dollar and change off Amazon. Can you say BARGAIN? Now take a look at that slit. Is it not perfect? Just enough leg to show off my fishnets and ankle length nylon socks peeking out of my Matiko ACE booties.

Before running out the door last night, I thought the vest looked a little boring, so luckily the previous day I bought a bunch of studs and pins in the Garment District. BAM, studded the collar with these cute triangle studs and stuck on my silly American flag pin.

INTERLUDE. So my original intention for this past Valentine's Day was to spend it with one of my best friends on her couch sippin' wine and eatin' pizza until we passed out. Our itinerary changed when I got a call from another close friend of mine. Cherie wanted us to attend the Rag & Bone event at the Dream Downtown for New York Fashion Week. NOW, I promised myself I wouldn't go to anything NYFW related to avoid the chaos of beautiful people that are too well dressed for their own good. BUT, as Samantha and I pondered about what to do in our old tee's covered in pizza stains, we figured we should take advantage of this event since there are probably thousands of girls around the world that would die to go and it would be considered rude if we passed up the opportunity (especially since I've already turned down tickets to NYFW shows). AND so we went.

Because it was such short notice I didn't have my camera on hand, so here are a few shots taken from my Instagram (username: katielikatieli). Best part of the night was BAND OF HORSES playing! Major incentive for why we ended up going. Free show, free booze, and free candy. That's A-OKAY in my book.

The real reason for this post though is to boast about my best friend! My BFF4L~* Marc Sebastian Faiella (whom I've featured in previous posts) starred in the newly released The Drums video 'Days'! Also co-starring Amanda Lepore (but Marc's cooler). Please check it out! This video is AMAZING, not to mention The Drums is most definitely a 'listenworthy' band. Let me know what you think!

Period. . .

Sometimes I get in one of those period moods. No I don't mean that dreaded time of month for all us young ladies, I mean listening to music or dressing in a certain style that reminds you of a specific period in time. You know what I mean. Go put on Mandy Moore's 'Candy' and try and tell me you don't want to put on cargo pants, a belly shirt with beaded fringe, and a Walkman strapped across your chest. Just try. Impossible I tell ya! Or have you ever put on Lesley Gore's 'You Don't Own Me' and closed your eyes. Woman makes you feel like your in the 1960's performing right there with her! Okay, maybe she doesn't make everyone feel that way. Maybe that's just how I feel when I'm singing in the shower...

Threads: Regardless, this day I was feeling very 90's grunge. Granted I wasn't inspired by Soundgarden or Alice in Chains, but this was the style I was channeling. I threw on studded leggings from H&M, old v-neck tee from some generic store, grey toned flannel (duh) from Uniqlo, thrifted jean jacket from Urban Jungle, second hand moto boots, black beanie, and mirror circle sunnies to top it off.

How cute are those red feet!?!? Small appearance from my adorable roommate Nicole :) She's the one that tolerated the cold to take these photos. Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day or some shit like that. I'm wearing all black today and am probably going to watch 'The Craft' on repeat when I get out of work with my best friends. They are my real Valentines. I don't need a silly holiday to remind my loved ones that I love them! <3

This past Tuesday was my 22nd birthday. I'm usually not a huge fan of my birthday, but this one was a good one. I really have the most amazing friends ever. Met up with my mom for lunch and spent the rest of the day trying on expensive clothes at Opening Ceremony because my friend Marc was working. Before I quickly fell into a state of depression because I couldn't afford anything, I hurried my little butt over to one of my favorite thrift stores in Brooklyn and bought 4 articles of clothing. Phew, close call, I know. After that, I asked a bunch of my friends to come out to a bar, and surprisingly, a ton of people came! haha. Follow my Instagram to check out photos from that night! Threads: So this is what I wore, those squeaky leather shorts again from H&M and obviously a sheer chiffon shirt. Ugh, I don't know if I'll ever stray away from sheer. I tossed on some combat boots instead of heels (in case I drank a little TOO much if ya know whut I mean? I was just trying to think ahead). I didn't go all out with my outfit because, well, I just didn't want to that morning. Simple and clean is okay with me. Also, this is my roof, isn't it cuteeee?! The New York City skyline looks so purty and I couldn't have asked for better weather. Check out this first photo, my hair looks CrAzYyy!

Details: Threw on a statement necklace under the collar and called it a day with jewlery. (but I obviously wore a million rings) Also currently one of my favorite pairs of sunnies. Picked these bad boys up at Beacons Closet. I think circle glasses really compliment my face since my head is so big and round bhaha.

But you know what else is so great about this post? That it's posted on a FRIDAY, which means it's the weekend! Have a great weekend lovelies!

Threads: Serious 90's vibin'. When I went home for Christmas this year I went through my mothers bins of unworn clothing and this is what I found! An adorable cozy royal blue sweater vest worn as a shirt under her sweet early 90's jacket. If this jacket doesn't scream the 90's then I don't know what does...oh wait, maybe my yin-yang earrings do. I have a serious obsession with the 90's. Recently I've only been listening to tacky 90's music and watching movies that came out in that era.

What better way to compliment a 90's inspired outfit than with a pair of white converses and cut-off Levi's! Also worn with tights and socks since it is still pretty cold out. NYC has however been having weird warmer days in February. Thank god for global warming right?

They should put me on VH1's 'I Love the 90's' and let me date Ethan Embry circa 1998. If you don't know who that is, you should probably sit yourself down in front of your computer and watch Can't Hardly Wait, Empire Records, and That Thing You Do. If you're reading this, you're already half way there! Completely worth it. Unless you think those movies are dumb. Then not so much.

Charlie Brown

Threads: For some reason the other day I was inspired by Charlie Brown (?) Maybe it was more so the color scheme but whateva whateva I do what I want. I think I was just more in the mood for a menswear look. Plus, COLLARS ARE COOL.

Faux leather is awesome too by the by. These diggs are from H&M. The only unfortunate thing about them is sometimes when you walk, you sound like a rubber ducky.

I decided I needed to show this look with the coat I wore. Since it IS winter here, a coat is imperative. This coat rules, mainly because I got it for 12 buckaroos at Salvation Army. I also love hoods and this coat's got the perfect one!

Details: Stomping around in my Matiko - KLEAH wedges paired with little white socks makes me feel uber cute. Add an embellished collar and I'm good to go.

I'm keeping this post short because I'm hungry. Sooo, have a good weekend my little cyber frands, don't spend too much time on the interwebs!

Pleat week

Threads: Pleated maxi skirt? HELL YEAH. This is probably one of my favorite pieces, mainly because it's so comfortable. It's like wearing a sheet and/or blanket as a skirt. As if I never got out of bed! Pft, I wish. A major pro about this skirt is I can wear leggings or thick tights underneath to stay warm in the winter days. A major con though is that it looks atrocious with winter coats, thus leading me to wear my leather jacket with it. Most likely the reason I'm as sick as a poodle right now. Blahhhh. AT LEAST IT'S WEDNESDAY!

Winter winds

Threads: Winter never stops me from wearing over the knee socks and leather jackets. Ever. After a lovely afternoon with my girl Nicole, we managed to get in a few shots on the roof. For a casual Sunday, I threw on my mother's old motorcycle boots, an XL mens graphic tee and over the knee socks both from H&M, a motorcycle leather jacket by David Bitton, and these awesome new matte sequins shorts from Zara. I kept the palette black and grey, seems like a very common scheme for me.

Details: Rocking my Rebecca Minkoff M.A.C. bag with this black and grey ensemble. I love that this bag can fit all my trinkets without me looking like a bag lady. Usually I'm lugging around some huge bag that may or may not contain pointless life belongings...

Seeing green

Threads: It's that time of year when all want to do is throw on a beanie because I'm too lazy to do my hair. Yes, that means February is around the corner and yes, that means I will be hibernating for the entire month of my birthday because oddly enough, it's my least favorite month of the year. It's so bleak don't cha think? Plus, it entails that stupid holiday called 'Valentines Day'. Who needs commercialism anyways?!

The beanie was purchased from some hat vendor in SoHo, but you can find one at almost any drug store during the winter season. Lovely leopard print chiffon blouse from Necessary Clothing in SoHo. Express skirt thrifted from Salvation Army (I didn't think Express made skirts like that. Must be from the early 2000's). Sunnies from Beacon's Closet. Also threw on a little cardigan since it IS winter here.

Details: My favorite piece of this look are these friggin' awesome sunnies I got a couple weeks ago from Beacon's Closet (I always want to call it Bacon's Closet). Aren't they funky? They reminded me of some sort of bifocal Benjamin Franklin would have worn if he were a hippie...

Picnic in the park

Threads: The other day, my roommates and I had the pleasure of checking out the pop up park in NoLita. so for our Thursday excursion. I wore a simple 'me' outfit. Something casual and easy to run around in (hence the combat boots). This amazing men's shirt by Rogan was picked up at Buffalo Exchange a little while back. One of my favorite things is prancing around in over sized menswear with no pants on. Wore this shirt as a dress and paired it with sheer tights, over the knee socks, and combat boots. Obviously wore shorts underneath so I could sit like a boy in the park (cue Beyonce - 'If I were a boyyyyyyyy')

Details: Let me just tell you how well crafted this shirt is. The coral detailing is my favorite. Since this outfit is extremely black&grey, the little pop of color is just enough. PLUS, Rogan has the cutest tags. Makes me feel like the shirt really cares about me, nameann?!

The indoor park rules. It was the perfect location for us to sit our lazy asses down in those giant been bags and lay around for hours. It's a brilliant concept for New York City. With the weather finally being cold and bitter, this magical fairyland makes you feel like you can wear floral spring dresses (but don't, because it's snowing today and you'll freeze your ass off). We brought in a little wine and cheese and had ourselves a lovely little picnic. If you live in NYC, make it a point to stop here within the next week since the gallery is said to close on the 15th of February. Let's hope the gallery extends it till the end of February since the weather is probably going to be shit.

After the park closed around six, we shopped around SoHo for a little while and then headed over the Chelsea to see a few gallery openings. Sometimes art is really bizarre...but it's okay because there was complimentary wine in most of the galleries to help you appreciate it more. ;)

Collar me black

Threads: This entire outfit was thrifted in Brooklyn this past week with the exception of my cute frilly socks ;) Vintage amsterdam Hard Rock tee from Urban Jungle. High waisted TopShop pants and Nine West pumps from Buffalo Exchange. Sunnies and detachable collar are from Beacon's Closet. The entire outfit cost me approximately 50 buckaroos. \m/

Recently I've been inspired to mix and match styles. Trying a little grungy vintage paired with classic tailored (and twee socks!). I've been doing the same with my interior designs as well. Modern/contemporary furniture looks exquisite with classic traditional pieces. Can't hurt to step of the lines and experiment!

Details: Got this adorable little ear cuff off Etsy paired with a few thrifted rings. The detachable Peter Pan collar is my new favorite toy though. I want to wear it with everything...or nothing. Just wear the collar. Nothing else ;)

I'm currently redesigning a few model loft apartments in TriBeCa and in the process of doing so, I have stumbled across my new favorite furniture line! I've heard of Canvas before but never took the time to look into their products. Last week we had a representative from their showroom come into the office and introduce me to some of their pieces and let me tell you I was blown away. Not only is the company extremely helpful, but the craftsmanship and elegance of their products are absolutely stunning. Here are a few of my favorite pieces from their latest line:

Hand down, my absolute favorite is the Chesterfield Sofa (the first image). Absolutely gorgeous and comes in the most lovely array 100% cotton velvets. Just imagine a brick red wall as the backdrop to that sofa. Drooling at the thought.

I finally got the chance to utilize my day off and do something productive and fun. Yesterday me and my favorite gentlemen Ryan, Marc, and Will went to check out the exhibits at PS1. A beautiful old school converted into a contemporary museum. If ever in the area, it's a must see! Some of the exhibits were ehhhh but a few were really fantastic. I wasn't allowed to photograph in most, but the shots I got were taken in our favorite exhibit, a fucking giant pit of yarn. A death pit of Raggedy Ann's if you wish. But nonetheless...SO. MUCH. FUN. And obviously, any time with these guys is a good time.

Threads: For New Years I decided to not go flashy mainly because we went see Brand New (oh nostalgia!). One thing I strictly remember thinking back when I used to attend shows a lot was 'This girl looks SO ridiculous dressed up for this concert?', so I kept it simple yet classy (a must for NYE) and wore a velvet red wine pencil skirt with a corset bra top. For the colder air, I wore this asymmetrical sheer button up and sheer tights. Put some new Matiko KLEAH wedges on my feet and a dark lip and I was ready to boogie down.

So this is the new year! I hope everyone had a safe and an amazing time ringing it in. I spent my countdown in Atlantic City this year, a different experience I must say. We went to see Brand New perform at the House of Blues, our favorite band of 2006 when we all became so close. It was unreal and super nostalgic. They played all of their old hits and made me feel like I was 16 again. I couldn't have asked for a better New Years Eve! Here are a few photos of our night. We all had a little 'too' much fun so photos were only taken before we left our room, but trust me, we had a GREAT time.

Threads: Pleated sheer maxi skirt I picked up when I went home to my parents for Christmas weekend. Paired with a black lace corset bra, T strap heels, and a fur vest to ward off the cold.

I picked up a good amount of sheer clothing while I was home (and an amazing cropped silk pajama shirt). Made a quick pit stop at my local Goodwill and found the most stunning sheer floral print maxi dress and absolutely can't wait for its debut! I also walked away with the most ethereal pink lace maxi robe. I have to style it correctly or I'll look like an old lady who smokes a lot of cigarettes that can't let go of her past. Everything I bought was sheer and maxi. I believe I see a theme here...

Threads: If you couldn't tell already, I don't really like to wear pants. Every day is a 'No pants party' for me! This raggedy Perry Ellis sweater was handed down to me from a friend. I believe it was once fully intact, but I love it so much more like this. Gives is character! Pair it with over the knee socks and combat boots and you pretty much have a clear definition of the way I dress on most days. Top it off with a dark lip and some shades and I'm set! (I hope you imagined me awkwardly winking after reading that last line, 'cause that's most definitely what I did when I wrote it.)

Ho Ho Holidays

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! My family's not huge on Christmas, it's really just an excuse to spend time together and give each other gifts since we are 'culturally Buddhist'. We're not very religious in general, but Christmas is such a fun holiday, we have to celebrate!

My lovely sister, whom I love to death, was kind enough to surprise me with my first Rebecca Minkoff bag! I'm so excited to use it, you have no idea. You can't go wrong with a fresh new bag. ;)

Christmas was mostly spirited in my Brooklyn apartment this year since for the first time ever, we didn't have a tree or decorations at my parents. Don't worry, we put our presents under a plant in our house. Same effect. Sort of.

In case you're wondering, in which I'm sure you're not, the following is a list of the top 5 movies that have influenced my wardrobe.

1. CLUELESS - Like duh. Sheer, button ups, and over the knee socks. Every outfit Cher and Dion wear in this movie is on par. The girls know what's up. Now all I have to do is find myself a yellow plaid blazer to win over Paul Rudd...That's how it works right?

2. THE WARRIORS - Because there's leather and badass all over this movie. That's it.

3. ALMOST FAMOUS - 70's Rock & Roll. C'mon, if you don't love every outfit Penny Lane wears in this movie then something's wrong with you. JUST LOOK AT THE COAT. Dying. Dead.

4. EMPIRE RECORDS - Liv Tyler in combat boots and crop tops. Can't beat that. Also 90's grunge and well, Ethan Embry. I'd wear every outfit in this movie.

5. DIRTY DANCING - Last but most certainly not least, my girl Baby. The 80's were a magical time. Highwaisted ANYTHING is okay in my book. Every outfit she wore practicing on the bridge I have worn in real life in one form or another. Adore this movie, plus Patrick Swayze was a babe.

I'm in print! Found myself in the latest issue of W27 (Fashion Institute of Technology's school paper) wearing one of my favorite sweaters that I wore in a previous post. I know it's not actually as exciting as it seems, but it's the first time I've seen myself in print and it's circulating around the entire campus of FIT. Kinda cool? Maybe? Probably not.

With finals week sorrowfully consuming my life, I took a small break yesterday and headed over to 3rd Ward for their 5th Annual 3rd Ward Handmade Holiday Craft Fair! I think it's absolutely imperative to support local artists and designers. It's oh so lovely seeing the talent and creativity the locals of Brooklyn have to offer. So many amazing hand crafted things from knits, to stationary, to terrariums!

I walked away a pair a glam sunnies and a reconstructed vintage sequined top.

You bet your bottom dollar you'll be seeing this top in full in a future post ;)

Leather & Lace

Threads: I was deeply inspired by my previous post about Edelman Leather's new Leather & Lace Collection. Since it's been bizarrely warm this December, this maxi skirt shows off just enough. The skirt can also easily be paired with leggings underneath to provide a more warmth. And obviously, you can never go wrong with a leather jacket.

This evening I had the pleasure of viewing a lovely presentation by Echo and Rachel - the marketing team at Edelman Leather. As an Interior Designer in the works, I try my best to stay informed on the latest products and merchandise of top vendors in the field. Edelman Leather carry some of the finest leather on the market. Being highly influenced by today's styles in fashion (my favorite combination - Fashion & Interior Design), these new hip and whimsical collections are the perfect accents for any contemporary space.

Day Glow Brights Collection:

Did you know leathers could come in Neon colors? Well neither did I! This line was launched this past summer (2011) and is absolutely phenomenal. Perfect for adding a pop! of color in a room, whether it be on a chair, pillow, wall panel, etc. You can literally apply it just about anywhere.

This collection was also a finalist in Interior Design Magazine - Best of Year Awards

Leather & Lace Collection:

These hair on hide leathers are laser etched and look and feel absolutely magnificent. Lace inspired, these new innovative designs are something to look out for when the collection launches early next year. This may possibly be my favorite product right now.

Keeping current with today's styles is extremely important in design and I think Edelman Leather nailed it right on the head.

My wonderful roommate is at it again! Taking lovely photos of such commonplace trappings of beauty. Oddly enough, my hands in this photo are covered in smudge pot eyeliner. I accidentally got a dollop of eyeliner on my hand and in attempt to wash it off, this was the outcome. A tool many women, and even some men, use to embellish themselves can create a whole different type of beauty.

I am eternally grateful that I work in an office that does not require me to wear pant suits. I'm not one for business attire though I've seen many women pull it off wonderfully, it's just not for me.

For this bizarre weather we're having in New York City lately, a light leather jacket sufficed along with some over the knee suede boots and a tied Chambray shirt. Casual and appropriate for work.

I'm so thankful for everything in my life.

The wonderful thing about family and the holidays is that everyone celebrates it differently. My Thanksgiving consisted of all Asian food except for the turkey and mashed potatoes. Wouldn't say it's very American, but I wouldn't want it any other way. As my father does every year, he tried pawning me off to all of his Asian friend's sons. Made the night sufficiently awkward, but if it wasn't, then it wouldn't be Thanksgiving right?

It is by far one of the best music videos I have seen in a very long time. Not only is Duran Duran a phenomenal band, they are also one of the first bands to ever feature supermodels in their music videos. Talk about revolutionary! If you like fashion and music than this video is for you.

As much as I am excited to go home to Rockland for a few nights, I will miss Brooklyn dearly. I am

entirely grateful to have the opportunity to live in one of the best cities in the world. Dream on ladies and gents.
